Dodd Creek On the Campus of ASUMH
You may be familiar with Dodd Creek because it runs through the city of Mountain Home, but you may not be aware that there is a portion of it located on our campus. If you drive through the Thompson-Martin Gate (off of College Street) to get to our campus, then you will have crossed Dodd Creek.
There are many activities and goals that a Stream Team can be active in and have, but one major activity that several Stream Teams are involved in is adopting creeks and streams. Since Dodd Creek is partly located on our campus, what better creek to adopt? Thus, Dodd Creek is our adopted creek.

What Does Adopting a Creek Mean?
Here are a few of the goals that we have established for Dodd Creek:
1) Litter Control
2) Bank Stabilization
3) Water Testing
4) Nature Trail
1) Litter Control
- Each semester we hold trash pick up events to remove unwanted litter from the banks and water.
2) Bank Stabilization
- There are a few areas along the creek bank that are severely eroded. We would like to initiate a plan to stabilize the banks and put plants in place that would help with erosion problems.
3) Water Testing
- In the Spring 2011 semester, a group of Honors Biology Stream Team members took several water quality readings of the creek.
- In the Fall 2010 semester, a group of Honors Biology Stream Team members took several samples of the macroinvertebrates that are found in Dodd Creek to create an inventory list that assessed the water quality of the creek.
4) Nature Trail
- A long term goal for the Hellbenders is to create a nature trail and picnic area alongside Dodd Creek.
